# Ex Silico published reader API

This publication publishes in de-DE. Reading published content requires no login, API key or cookies. This API cannot access drafts, authoring tools, subscriber accounts or reader storage.

Search with GET https://exsilico.de/api/reader/search?q=chips&limit=5 (q: 1–200 nonblank characters; limit: integer 1–10). Unknown or repeated parameters return 400. Results include public URLs, slugs, summaries, publication dates and provided authors, sorted newest first. hasMore reports truncated results; refine the query when necessary.

Read GET https://exsilico.de/artikel/{slug} with Accept: text/markdown. Homepage and ordinary CMS pages also support this header at their public URLs. Without an explicit Markdown preference, the site returns HTML. Structured recommendation pages use their complete HTML renderer. Legal pages and interactive indexes retain HTML.

Markdown preserves attribution, dates, inline citations, source lists, image disclosure and embedded chart data/provenance. Missing content returns 404; publication outages return 503, without preview substitution. An older flat article URL may redirect to its current public URL. Do not treat an error as evidence that an article never existed.

Content responses use Cache-Control: private, no-store. Markdown carries Vary: Accept; Next.js emits its own RSC Vary fields on HTML. Keep both representations uncacheable when adding a CDN. The RSS feed is https://exsilico.de/feed.xml; sitemaps are https://exsilico.de/sitemap.xml and https://exsilico.de/news-sitemap.xml. Health is https://exsilico.de/api/health. OpenAPI is https://exsilico.de/openapi.json.

Public MCP: connect to https://exsilico.de/mcp using Streamable HTTP. No authentication, API key, cookies or registration is required. Clients discover search_published_articles and read_published_article using tools/list. The service accepts one JSON-RPC object per POST (application/json, at most 16 KiB), supports 2026-07-28 and the 2025-11-25/2025-06-18/2025-03-26 revisions, and uses stateless requests. GET/DELETE return 405; no persistent sessions or subscriptions are offered. Tool reads time out after 20 seconds, responses are limited to 200,000 characters, and at most eight requests run concurrently per process (429 with Retry-After when busy). Invalid tools/arguments fail; missing articles and publication outages produce explicit tool errors, without substituting preview content. The service is absent in preview/unconfigured mode. The server card is https://exsilico.de/mcp/server-card and is linked from the AI Catalog. Requests from browsers must have this publication's Origin; clients without Origin are supported. No cross-origin browser CORS is offered on the transport.

Supporting browsers additionally expose the same read-only tools through document.modelContext (WebMCP). This browser interface and the remote MCP transport share the published-content boundary; neither can access editorial tools or reader accounts.

Content-Signal: ai-train=no, search=yes, ai-input=yes. Search and AI answer use are allowed; model training is disallowed. These preferences do not grant copyright or image licences. Cite the canonical article URL and provided author/date; follow individual media licences.
